Students and teachers at Sonnet Montessori hosted High Tea in honor of Montessori Education Week, which is observed annually the last week of February. The Minnesota governor’s office also observed Montessori Education Week, affirming that the method encourages “learning, independence, and self-confidence” and advances “the principles of peace through civic responsibility.” The Montessori method of education was developed in the early 20th century by Dr. Maria Montessori, an Italian educator, scientist, and physician.
Our Lakeville school community hosted Representative Jon Koznick (Senate District 57A), Luke Hellier (Mayor, City of Lakeville), Krista Jech (President, Lakeville Chamber of Commerce), Brittany Wright (Program Manager, Governor’s Children’s Cabinet), Justin Miller (Lakeville City Manager), Brad Paulson (Lakeville Chief of Police), and Tricia Wangerin (Assistant Director of Admissions, St. Catherine’s University).
Our Prior Lake school community hosted Mayor Kirt Briggs, Chamber of Commerce President Rebecca Scholz, Prior Lake-Savage Schools Superintendent Dr. Michael Thomas, Victor Lake (City Council), Daryl Jelle (Fire Captain), Tony Adderley (Fire Department), and Kristy Fehr (Assistant Professor of Early Childhood & Montessori Programs, St. Catherine’s University) to their schools.
Students and their guests enjoyed story time, tea, and cucumber sandwiches.
Montessori education is a child-centered, individualized approach to learning that nurtures the child’s curiosity and desire for independence in an environment of respect. Sonnet Montessori has served the South Metro for over fifteen years but was relicensed under new ownership in 2022, and is passionate about their mission to “put good humans into the world and to leave the world better than we found it.”
